very well written and it justly reflects wht i was thinking yday.. we shd be ashamed of ourselves.. the civilisation tht exists in the whole Indian subcontinent.. Ind/Pak/SL/nepal is a of a strange kind.. their reaction defies logic at most times.. u knw wht.. I was thinking of being critical of ppl of Bangalore and then it hit me tht the whole subcontnt is filled with situations like these.. infact i made a list in TN alone which can happen the same way as it did yday and i came up with a list like urs.. althgh When Shivaji ganesan passed away - it was handled very very well.. so may not happen all the time but ya.. for a natural death cause - it stinks.. and to think of it - we need to see no further than the ppl in US.. how the King funeral was held and more recently - did u c the number of ppl tht had gathered to protest the Immigration law? 500000 in LA alone and not one stone thrown.. we have just lost it and actually we never had one (brain).. more disturbing is tht the youth r resorting to this and with the explosion in popl in tht age grp it seems like it will cont.
the personal touch to this frm u was very good too.. sorry to knw abt ur dad but frm my experience too it irks when a family member had passed away and we want to just sit there and think of wht we r gonna miss and u have these ladies with no connect.. mourning so loudly.. sad..
well written..
Thanks, Vivhyd. Not often I tend to write so much.. but looks like I was just "flowing" yesterday..Anyway.. Feels good to know people feel the same was as I did and were able to reflect their own feelings with my words as they read along.. BTW, I'f you know it or not, you just made my day with your Comment "well written"..
hopped in from smyta's blog... passionately written article :-) and i echo some of ur views...
bangalore being the "IT city", its no wonder that it grabbed the most attention amongst international media too...
when politicians die in india, things are much worse...
in any case, the fans (or hooligans) have this agenda -- when his star has died how can others keep normal life... everyone shld remember him and they resort to violence and sometimes govt. aids it too by promising to keep the body for public display at some place and time and not following it thereby leaving the fans restless... all said, this definitely is not the way and we definitely differ in the way we "celebrate" death...
but having the gandhian history, we also do protests (for deaths) in different ways... bhopal tragedy is an example... 21.5 yrs now and we are still fighting for justice... no violence what so ever!... and in the narmada issue (if u r following), 35000 families are threatened to be displaced by the rasie in the dam height and the govt. is acting still and immoved by the issue (even when medha patkar and a couple more have been fasting for the last 16 days!!!)... now finally media is going to grab some attention because of "RDB" aamir khan supporting these two causes...
now imagine this: if there had been hooligans who can do such things (like what happened in bglr y'day), the above two issues might have been solved or atleast have been given the highest priority (!!!)?...
NO, am not supporting violence, just a thought for u to ponder upon :-)...
and i just went back to some of ur old posts and nice to come across a fellow-marathoner... go running :-)
and sorry for the long comment!!! :-)
Well put GeronimoThrust!!. What happened in Blr this week was a disgusting event though it wasn't something new for our mother nation.
I agree that any literate or anyone with conscience wouldn't stand such a thing to happen. But unfortunately in our nation, we have scarcity for such humans.
In my perspective, any individual did not start the whole riot. People in close quarters to those celebrities for their personal benefits want to show their impact & power to community. Easiest way is bringing whole society to a grinding halt with help of rogues & fans.
In my opinion, I wouldn't agree with comparing American way of death management (Nice coinage!! which we need to ponder over!!). Though we flaunt as the largest democracy of the world, we are incomparable to America in many ways. Being ruled by autocrats for centuries together and attaining democracy few decades back, I'm sure a day will dawn very soon to compare our nation with any developed nation.
People should be educated to identify the selfish motive behind people getting involved in riots and also employment will play a lead role in avoiding these type of riots.
Last but not the least, bureaucrats like city commissioner/Collector should curtail these kinds of activities with iron hand without any interference from the politicians.
Reaching a point where we have more literates & people with conscience in our nation, which is going to take few more generations and we need a better education system which not only teaches the students to be engineers or doctors but humans and good citizens!!
GeronimoThrust, thanks for addressing such a genuine issue in a sensible manner with your personal touch.
